Stylish Wide Shoes For Everyday Wear - By Katie Owen
When I started Sargasso & Grey 11 years ago, it was a small dream with big ambition. Like many women, I was spinning a lot of plates — working full-time in finance, raising two children, and finding my own sense of purpose amid the everyday juggle of family and work.
From the beginning, I envisioned a brand that women could truly live life in — one that celebrated beauty but never at the expense of comfort. I wanted women to feel confident and elegant in shoes that worked as hard as they did. Today, I’m incredibly proud to see that vision brought to life.
Over the years, our collection of shoes has grown from elegant occasion wear to everyday essentials and with so many styles to choose from, it's hard to pick my favorites, but here goes....
MORNING MOMENTS - THE SCHOOL RUN
My day starts with the morning school run. Not without its stresses, between locating missing shoes (not mine, I should add!) and managing the inevitable rush, practicality takes priority. But I still like to feel put together — there’s something about stepping out the door feeling polished that sets the tone for the day ahead.
Currently, my go-to is the Ezi Wide Fit Sneaker. It combines durability and understated style with the comfort I need for my wide feet. I pair them with my favorite flared jeans, a simple t-shirt and a suede jacket. Easy, neutral staples! If I want a little more sophistication, if I am heading into town, an easy flat, such as Siobhian, is my go-to shoe.
My weekends are usually spent at the side of a rugby pitch, so I choose a boot that is sturdy, comfy, easy to put on and easy to clean, such as our Vallera ankle boot.
IN THE OFFICE - COMFORT THAT MEANS BUSINESS
My working days are rarely still. Between meetings, calls, and overseeing collections, I need shoes that look professional but are practical and fit like a glove. The Madison Mary-Jane Heel is my current favorite. It takes a classic silhouette and gives it a modern twist, with a contemporary square toe and soft black leather finish that feels as beautiful as it looks.
In my past career in banking, I always wore suits, so I now enjoy having more flexibility with my work wardrobe, mixing smart with casual, such as a simple knit dress and belt with a denim jacket, offering easy, confident comfort that gets me through the day.
I love an ankle boot with a dress, and one of my favorites is our Lucille ankle boot that pairs perfectly with this cosy ensemble, but a simple court, such as Tamsin elevates the look if more formality is required.
EVENING ELEGANCE - FROM WORK TO DINNER
My evenings are usually spent as a taxi-service, chef and laundry service, but if I am out and about for a social event, I choose footwear that I can confidently and comfortable commute in (often my outings are to Central London) and as winter approaches, my favourite choice is our Lily Ankle boot, or the elegant Elsa as this is the perfect formal shoe that offers added security when navigating the Underground. Sometimes, when only a flat will do, it has to be the classic Capella.
My vision for Sargasso & Grey has been based on a simple footwear philosophy that every pair of our shoes is designed to move with you and is crafted to be refined, versatile, and built to last far beyond a single season.
